Spoilers for Days of Our Lives on Monday, October 16, 2023: Chad pulls away from Stephanie. Ava and Harris admit their feelings. Sarah softens toward Xander.
Days Recap Today
Stephanie enters the room and greets Chad. She expresses gratitude for letting her sleep in since she was dealing with a PR crisis until 3 a.m. Unfortunately, they couldn't end the night together as they usually do, but she suggests they could start the day together. Stephanie hugs Chad, but he pulls away, leaving her puzzled. When she asks what's wrong, Chad apologizes and says it's nothing. Stephanie insists and asks if she did something to make him pull away. Chad reveals that it's Abigail's birthday today, and Stephanie realizes she forgot. She admits it was thoughtless of her, and Chad agrees, saying that the day is harder for him. He wishes he had killed Clyde when he had the chance for killing his wife. Stephanie reminds him that Clyde is locked up and cannot harm anyone again. She tells Chad that he is loved and needed by many people, including herself. They hug, and Chad apologizes for pulling away. Stephanie tells him he doesn't have to apologize, especially not today. Chad informs her that he is going to visit Abby's grave for a while and declines her offer to accompany him. He says he needs to be alone with the kids today, and he hopes she understands. Stephanie reassures him that she does, and they will see each other later.
Chad gets a call from Lucas, who says he is just checking on Chad, being aware that it's Abigail's birthday today. He wishes he could be there with Chad and the kids, but he hopes Chad is around people who love him. Lucas tells Chad about his run-in with Clyde. Chad tells Lucas that he needs him to steer clear of Clyde Weston and not do anything stupid.
Days Recap Today
Xander visits Sarah at the Kiriakis Mansion. Sarah's feelings toward him soften after finding out that Susan is alive. She confesses that she never thought Xander was a killer, but was afraid to let him back into her life after everything that had happened. They share a moment and almost kiss, but Sarah backs away, acknowledging that Xander is with Chloe. Xander reveals that Philip and Chloe are moving back to New York, but that doesn't change anything between him and Sarah. Sarah admits that she regrets keeping Xander in the dark about his daughter and begs for his forgiveness. She explains that at the time, it felt justified, but now she understands that it was unfair. Xander struggles to understand Sarah's perspective but admits to the love he had for her. Sarah expresses her desire for Xander to be a part of Victoria's life, but is interrupted by a call from Justin. He informs her that Xander has filed for full custody of Victoria and that Sloan is going to argue that Sarah is an unfit parent. Sarah is furious and demands that Xander leave. She refuses to see him again until they meet in court.
Kate and Marlena are at the Pub. Kate is expressing her concern regarding her adult children and whether there was more she could have done for them. However, Marlena reassures her that they did their best as parents and now, they can only be optimistic and hope that their children find their way. Kate agrees with Marlena's advice, but also admits that she feels somewhat abandoned with Philip being in New York, Rex returning to Chicago, Austin currently in Europe, and Lucas being in prison.

In Statesville, Clyde catches up on the latest news with a smirk on his face. As he reads the story of Susan being alive, he laughs, reading that Edmund Crumb received an unsolicited phone call from a person delivering Susan to him and claims not to know the person's identity. Clyde notes that it was him and the cops will never figure it out. Lucas then walks in and asks Clyde what is he talking to himself about. Lucas decides he wants to keep it moving but not before reminding Clyde that it is Abigail's birthday and mentions how Clyde murdered his niece in cold blood. Clyde claims his intention was not to kill Abigail and defends himself but Lucas wonders how this sick bastard lives with himself. He doesn't think Clyde deserves to be alive. Clyde reminds Lucas of his crimes and taunts him. He tells Lucas to be careful about issuing threats and then leaves.
Days Recap Today
Kayla welcomes Tripp back to the hospital, and he tells her how happy he is to be back after his adventure in London. He's also glad his mom has been released from Bayview, but he's not sure if she'll stay in Salem for long. Tripp hopes she'll stick around for a while, so she can get some stability and avoid more drama. Kayla expresses her concern about Ava staying with Tripp, but he assures her that his mother has changed. Suddenly, Tripp gets an alert and has to rush to attend to an OD patient in the ER.
Tripp arrives to attend to Mr. Galvin, who expresses his desire to leave. However, Tripp tells him that he needs to draw a little blood to check what's wrong with him. In response, Mr. Galvin pulls out a scalpel and threatens Tripp. He refuses to let Tripp take any of his blood but instead decides to take some of Tripp's blood. Later, Kayla arrives and notices Tripp attending to an injury. Concerned, she asks him what happened, and he assures her that he's fine. Tripp explains that one of his patients became paranoid while he was trying to draw blood and grabbed a scalpel. Kayla helps Tripp with his injury. She later receives an update that security was unable to find the patient who attacked Tripp, and he managed to escape. Tripp expresses his desire to return to work, but Kayla advises him to go home and rest.
Stephanie arrives at the hospital and sees her mother. She asks if it is a bad time and what is with all the security downstairs. Kayla tells Stephanie that there was an incident with a patient who attacked Tripp, and she sent him home even though he did not want to leave. Stephanie notes that she was hoping to take her mother to lunch. Kayla says she cannot take that long of a break because they are swamped, and she is already down one doctor. Stephanie says that she guesses that today is just one of those days when she is going to keep hearing "no." She informs her mother about what happened with Chad and notes that she believes that Chad will never love her as much as he loved Abigail.
Ava and Harris share a kiss. Harris confesses he'd been wanting to do that for some time, and Ava admits she had been feeling the same way. Ava had convinced herself that her feelings for him were not romantic, but after the kiss, they both acknowledge that they have more than just platonic feelings for each other. Ava suggests that they should put things on hold until they get their lives back on track, as she doesn't have any money and doesn't know what type of job she could get. She confesses that the only thing on her resume is "mob princess," and she is not interested in that line of work anymore. Harris sees it as an opportunity for a fresh start, and asks Ava what she would like to do if she could be anything in the world. She admits that she loves to cook, so he suggests she could feed people for a living. Ava then asks Harris the same question, and he admits that Kate suggested he work as a cop. However, he would have to talk to Rafe and see what he thinks. Ava advises him not to bring her up as a reference, as she is not Rafe's favorite person. Harris promises that if he gets the opportunity to work with the commissioner, he will try not to hold anything against him for that. Harris then leaves after Tripp walks in. Ava notices something happened to Tripp's arms, and he informs her of the incident at the hospital before leaving to change. Shortly after, Ava receives a call from Clyde, who tells her that her son's accident at work was no accident and they have a lot to talk about.
