Spoilers for Days of Our Lives on October 18, 2023: Tensions escalate between Leo and Dimitri. Stefan and Gabi strategize their next power move. Rafe comforts an upset Jada. Paulina seeks Marlena’s help, while Abe confides in John.

Days of Our Lives Episode Recap October 18, 2023: John Gets Through To Abe

Rafe comforts a crying Jada and she apologizes for falling apart. He tells her that it's ok and Kate approaches and asks what's wrong. Jada tells Kate that she's sad about her sister leaving and Kate tells her that Marlena told her about Talia sleeping with Shawn and that she's not judging. She tells Jada that she's there for her and Jada thanks her.

Rafe and Jada sit down for lunch and talk about Harris being her new partner. He tells her that he has spoken to Harris already and told him that he wants them to find out who brought Susan to Edmund in London. Rafe gets a call from the hospital telling him that Dimitri is well enough to be transported to a holding cell. Jada offers to be his back up and they leave the Pub.

Days Recap Today

Gabi asks Stefan how long he is going to give her the silent treatment and he reminds her that she turned his mother in. She defends herself and says Vivian will be happier in her home country and reminds him that they have Dimitri and Megan's shares of DiMera and that Dimitri will be out of their lives once he goes to jail. They go into the house and find EJ on the phone with Susan, checking on her. 

After he hangs up, Gabi makes a crack about them and their mothers and Stefan tells EJ that she doesn't understand the bond between mother and son. Stefan tells EJ how happy he is that Susan is alive and EJ tells him that he is sorry Vivian had to leave. He asks them what happened to make Dimitri try to kill them. Gabi and Stefan remember when Dimitri held them at gunpoint and Gabi tells EJ about them finding out about Dimitri's tryst with Leo.

She tells him that they decided to blackmail him and Stefan cuts in and tells him that they were blackmailing him to get a cut of the money but now Gwen has taken off with it so they get nothing. EJ says that is too bad and tells them that he has something to take care of. After he is gone Gabi asks Stefan why he lied and he tells her that it's best EJ doesn't know they have the shares until they figure out the best way to use them.

Days Recap Today

Leo brings Dimitri his favorite ice cream and takes a bite of it. Dimitri asks if he is going to share and Leo tells him no because he ruined their lives. Dimitri didn't know Leo was so angry with him and Leo vents his rage about Dimitri breaking his promise and trying to kill Stefan and Gabi. Dimitri is thrilled that Leo called him the love of his life and Leo grudgingly tells him that its true. 

Dimitri tells him that he loves him too and they share a sweet moment expressing their feelings. Dimitri apologizes for messing everything up and Leo tells him that Gwen left town and that he hopes she gets all of the money. Dimitri asks Leo to help bust him out of the hospital. Leo doesn't want to spend their lives on the run but Dimitri tells him it's the only way they can be together.

Before they can finish their conversation EJ comes in and tells Dimitri that he is looking well and gives him the ice cream that he brought for him. Leo calls EJ out on his fake sympathy and they ask him why he is really there. EJ tells Dimitri he wanted to talk to him about his and Megan's shares in DiMera. Since Dimitri can't vote with them while in prison, EJ offers to vote the shares for him. 

Dimitri tells him that he's too late because he doesn't have the shares anymore. EJ wants to know who has the shares and Dimitri tells him that he signed them over to Gabi and Stefan. Leo explains to EJ that Stefan and Gabi were blackmailing Dimitri which is why he was trying to kill them. Leo tells him that after Vivian shot Dimitri, they refused to call an ambulance until he signed over the shares so he had no choice. EJ takes the ice cream he brought and throws it in the trash before leaving angrily. 

Dimitri and Leo talk about busting him out and Dimitri asks what is keeping Leo in Salem. As they are talking about it. Jada and Rafe come in and Rafe says he hopes that they aren't interrupting. They tell Dimitri that as soon as his doctor signs the release they are taking him to jail. Leo tries to argue with them but they tell him the doctor said he is fit to stand trial. Rafe and Jada leave them a few minutes to talk alone and Leo asks Dimitri how they can get him out of there.

John calls Marlena and tells her that he got his father settled in his assisted living home and that he was thrilled to be there. Marlena is very happy for them both and they talk about how wonderful it is to have so much family around. John asks if she can come home from work early so they can go check on Belle and Marlena tells him that she can but then Paulina comes into her office and says that she needs her help. 

Marlena tells John that she has to go and then asks Paulina what she can do for her. Paulina tells her that Abe is on the verge of getting his memory back and she needs Marlena to give him the final push he needs. Paulina tells Marlena about Abe knowing where the decanter was and Marlena admits it could have been a memory or his subconscious. Paulina asks what else they can do to unlock more memories. Marlena tells her that maybe she needs some therapy herself for her anxiety over all of this. 

Paulina tells Marlena that she doesn't need therapy because her memory is fine and Marlena tells her that she is too fixated on Abe's memory. She tells her that she wonders what would happen if Paulina concentrated on the relationship she and Abe have now. Paulina admits things are going well but can't help but to gush about their trip to Flordia before he lost his memory. She asks Marlena how long it's going to take for him to get his memory back.

Marlena tells her that she has to prepare herself for the fact that Abe may never get his memory back. Paulina tells her that she and Abe have years of memories together and she can't pretend they didn't happen. Marlena tells her that she doesn't have to do that but she has to accept that Abe doesn't have the same memories. Paulina tells her that she can't do that. 

Marlena insists that she has to find acceptance with it or Abe may feel he is letting her down by not remembering. She warns Paulina that could be the beginning of the end for her and Abe. Paulina tells her that Abe is the love of her life and she can't lose him. Marlena advises her to stop focusing on the past and to make new memories. Paulina agrees to take her advice because she wants Abe to be happy and will do anything to help him get there.

John calls Belle to check on her and tells her that he and Marlena are going to come by later and bring her dinner. After he gets off the phone there is a knock on the door and it's Abe. He tells John that he is looking for Belle and John tells him that she doesn't live there but he was just talking to her. John asks Abe what he needs her for and Abe tells him that he wants to talk to Belle about her helping him file for a divorce.

John is surprised because he thought things were getting better between them. Abe tells him that they are and tells him about their dinner the night before. He tells John that Paulina thinks his knowing where the decanter was is a sign his memory is returning and she talked about it all night. John asks him if he is mad at her for that and Abe says he isn't mad at her for anything. He tells John that he has come to care for Paulina and wants to divorce her for her own good.

John doesn't understand but Abe tells him that Paulina would be better off with someone with less baggage. John tells him that he might be right and says he has the perfect guy in mind. John talks about setting Paulina up with his father and talks him up to Abe. Abe pushes back vehemently and John asks if he's jealous. Abe admits that he was and confides in John that he is falling back in love with Paulina. 

Abe worries that he can't be enough for Paulina and what will happen if he can never be the man he once was. John tells him that Paulina loves him, memories or no memories, and that they belong together. After Abe leaves, Marlena comes home and tells John about her visit with Paulina and what she told her. John tells her about his conversation with Abe and they laugh about what a great team they are.

Gabi and Stefan talk about how they can get the upper hand over EJ since they are on equal footing shares-wise. Gabi thinks Kristen, Peter, and Steven will vote with them but Stefan isn't sure about that. They talk about where each of them stands and Stefan is worried most about Kristen. Peter votes however she does and EJ has time to get her on his side. Gabi suggests they take Kristen's shares the same way they took Dimitri's.

Gabi tells him that they need to exploit Kristen's weakness like they did with Dimitri and EJ storms into their room, furious. He tells them that they make him sick and tells them that he knows they got Dimitri and Megan's shares and how they did it. EJ thought he and Stefan had called a truce and then found out he was trying to build a power base behind his back. 

Stefan tells him that he went to the hospital with the same intent and he's only mad that they got there first. EJ tells them that they are not going to push him out of the family business. Gabi tells him they just wanted to make sure things would run smoothly and that they are happy to work side by side with him. EJ tells her that he doesn't believe them and that two can play this game. He storms out and they know he is going to try to get Kristen's shares. Gabi tells him they have to move first and Stefan tells her that he just got a great idea.

Abe and Paulina meet in the Square and sit on a bench, talking. She apologizes for how she acted the night before and he tells her that he overreacted. She promises to do better and asks why he wanted to meet with her. He tells her that he wants to take her to dinner at the Bistro. She points out how early it is and says dinner now is for old married couples. Abe tells her that's what they are and they joke about it before heading to dinner, hand in hand.
