Spoilers for Days of Our Lives on October 20, 2023: Justin shoots straight with Sarah. Eric and Nicole discuss adoption plans. Xander has reservations about Sloan’s strategy. Alex has an offer for Theresa. Kayla is in a bind.

Theresa drops by to visit Alex, who initially wonders if they had plans that he forgot about. She reassures him that they didn't and presents him with a set of dishes, which he desperately needs now that he's the CEO of Titan and won't have time to shop for housewares. Alex suggests they try out the new plates by having some leftovers. Theresa asks how he's adjusting to being the son of the late Victor Kiriakis, and he admits that it's been tough since Justin turned out not to be his father and Victor isn't around to explain things. Theresa then brings up her own concerns about her living arrangements now that she's moved back to Salem and asks if Alex has any ideas. He wonders if she's unhappy at the Salem Inn, given that her business isn't doing so well and she may be struggling to pay the rent. Finally, he offers to let her move in with him, though she seems hesitant at first before eventually accepting his offer.
Xander pays Sloan a visit to discuss his chances of winning custody of his daughter. Sloan notes that Sarah is furious with him for trying to take away their child but reminds Xander that Sarah never cared about his feelings when she lied to him about the baby's paternity. She suggests they present Sarah as a pathological liar and mentally unstable in court, but Xander is hesitant. Sloan insists that if he wants full custody, he will have to be as unscrupulous as Sarah. Xander defends Sarah's mental health issue, caused by her being drugged, but Sloan says they have to do whatever it takes to win. Melinda arrives to visit Sloan straight from the airport, and Xander takes the opportunity to leave. Sloan wants to tell Eric about the good news, but Melinda stops her and shares that the adoption could prove problematic due to her feud with Paulina and covering up for her brother. Sloan pleads with Melinda to help them get the baby, as Eric wants to be a father. Melinda promises to do everything she can to help them.
Days Recap Today
Sarah meets with Justin in the Town Square to discuss Xander's threat to sue her for full custody of their child. Justin advises her to stay calm and reminds her that she has a lot going for her in court, such as her excellent track record as a doctor and Xander's criminal record. However, he warns her to anticipate what Xander could use against her, especially since she has lied about a child's paternity before. Sarah argues that the situation with Mackenzie was different, but Justin cautions her that Xander could use her mental health history against her. Sarah is confident that Xander won't stoop that low, but Justin reminds her that custody battles often bring out the worst in people. Sarah leaves to check on her child, Victoria, while Xander runs into Justin and confronts him about his involvement with Sarah's case. Later, Xander calls Sloan and instructs her to do whatever it takes to ensure he wins custody of his little girl.
Steve has a conversation with Roman at the Pub and learns that Tate has been expelled from school in California and will be working at the Pub. Roman comments that Tate takes after his mother and maybe he inherited some of her good qualities. They also discuss Theresa's return to Salem and her desire to stay there indefinitely. Roman reveals that she wanted a room at the Brady Pub, but the last room was rented to Harris Michaels. The topic then turns to Eric and Sloan's excitement about the prospect of adopting a baby. Kayla enters the Pub and orders a drink, and Steve immediately notices that she seems upset. Kayla explains that she had a rough day at the hospital after being handcuffed to a bed as Dimitri and Leo made their escape. Steve is enraged and wants to take matters into his own hands, but Kayla advises him not to and suggests they let the police handle it. Steve promises to make Dimitri pay for what he did to Kayla.
Eric runs into Nicole at the hospital while visiting a friend. She mentions that she is waiting for a prescription and suggests they wait together. Nicole asks about Eric's adoption process and he shares that it's going well thanks to Melinda Trask. Nicole notes that Melinda and Sloan have a lot in common, and she hopes that Eric gets to be the father he always wanted to be. Nicole brings up the possibility of surrogacy, but Eric explains that he realized passing on his genes to a child is not as important as passing on his love. The nurse interrupts their conversation to bring Nicole her prescription, and Nicole asks if there is any way she can get another hard copy of the genetic analysis for the baby she is carrying, as she somehow lost the previous one. The nurse agrees to get her another copy, and later presents Nicole with the new hard copy. Eric returns home and Sloan lies to him and tells him that Melinda said everything is looking good, and he will soon be a father.
Konstantin expresses his gratitude to Maggie for showing him around Salem. Maggie brushes it off, saying it was no trouble, and that Salem is just a typical American town. Konstantin disagrees, pointing out that Victor found true love there with Maggie, which made the place special to him. Maggie tells Konstantin that she needs to check with Henderson about dinner, but he insists that he will cook and it will be his pleasure. Sarah arrives home and tells Maggie about Xander's custody suit for Victoria, which shocks her. Maggie immediately takes out her phone to call Xander, but Sarah stops her. Maggie expresses her sympathy for Sarah's situation and assures her that Justin will help her through this. Konstantin returns and Maggie introduces him to Sarah. He compliments Sarah's beauty and invites her to join them for dinner. Konstantin then announces that he will take a walk around the city, but Maggie offers to go with him. He declines, saying he will be fine on his own.
Theresa returns to her suite to pack her things and move in with Alex, but she is interrupted by a knock on the door. To her surprise, it's Konstantin. She questions why he's there after she explicitly told him to stay put until she said otherwise.
