Linsey Godfrey and Paul Telfer told Soap Opera News all about working together, who else they'd play, and more! Read it here >>
Linsey Godfrey and Paul Telfer had a great time at the Day of Days fan event in Los Angeles, and along with signing autographs and taking pictures with those who could attend Soap Opera News caught up with the dynamic pair to ask a few burning questions.
If given the chance to write for the show, Tefler immediately jumped in to suggest that Sarah “to save someone’s life has to use Dr. Rolf’s dark medicine. She gets pulled in and it brings someone back from the dead… but she goes to the dark side from that and it’s Xander that has to pull her back… but he also wants to use Dr. Rolf’s drugs to get rich.”
Godfrey thinks it would be great if “Sarah and Xander open a detective agency because when they do capers it’s my favorite thing like breaking into Ava’s!”
Telfer names it, “The Xarah Detective Agency! But they never solve any crimes.”
Together, they joke about the Salem prisons, “Paul said the other day, ‘I’m not worried about jail it’s on an honor system.'"
Afterward, Telfer suggests that “Salem Prisons are just like an Air B&B!”
If they could play any other character on Days of Our Lives, Godfrey at first said she’d want to play Kristen, “I got to be Kristen pretending to be Sarah! It was so much fun! And watching Stacy, I get distracted when she’s Susan… NO! It’s Susan! It would be Susan! Stacy’s my favorite!”
“I have two… number one would probably be Victor,” Telfer answered, “because I’m very energetic and over the top while John was serene and strong and I need that in my acting. So to try, not to copy it, to try and take on having more gravity and maturity and less be reactionary all the time. I could do that with Victor.”
He didn’t stop there, as his second choice would be Clyde Weston; in an imitation southern accent, Telfer said, “To speak in a southern accent, control things from behind bars.”
When it comes to getting prepared for the emotional stakes recently between Xander and Sarah, Telfer told us that “it’s interesting this time because Xander and Sarah have been separated before. They’ve gotten back together often, but it’s been a dream sequence that we’re back in love. It's some other character’s fantasy or dream.
“Where as this time we went straight into anger and Xander’s suspicions of Sarah, which is an unusual dynamic between us. We used to be friendly with each other, Xander and Sarah genuinely had that sort of emotion, but this time it's hostility and then it ratchets up and up and up and to a point in the story where it makes them crazy!"
“Personally, I think it's fantastic!” Telfer concludes, “We’re used to working together, and sometimes there's a danger in that. There’s a lot of tricks. But we’re not committed to do that when we get scenes like that. It’s like a hard reset for us.”
Godfrey said, “We have so much trust with each other… as a parent, I can relate to these things and understand. I try to look at things from all sides, even while playing the part. I, Linsey, cannot imagine having someone that I felt that way about as a parent of my child, and I’d feel very protective of them… and if you look at my kid wrong, I will come after you in such a scary way! And even doing something horrible like keeping his child away, I was so upset!”
Godfrey returned to complimenting Telfer, “I have such a trust that he won’t make me feel silly if I get too big…”
“We catch each other and push the other forward,” Telfer added, “We have an amazing cast. An amazing troupe of actors, and of all the actors, I get to work with Linsey!”
“When you work with somebody for this amount of time now, you have all this baggage, and every interaction has these layers and history… I know you’re paying attention to it. I know you’re remembering. You know that I’m doing that too. It's not hard, but it's challenging in the way we need to be challenged.” Telfer said.
Teasing the future, Telfer says, “We’re here to stay! I know fans have been like, ‘Are they staying? Is Sarah staying?’ But we’ve been filming for a while! I think fans of us are really happy with the way things have been going.”
Godfrey says, “There will be a lot of good old-fashioned fraught moments [between Sarah and Xander]!”
