Robert Scott Wilson and Emily O'Brien Speak to Their Love for Being on Days of Our Lives (EXCLUSIVE)

Robert Scott Wilson and Emily O’Brien recently spent a few minutes with Soap Opera News during the Day of Days fan event held in Los Angeles.

Opening the conversation, we complimented the duo on creating interesting characters that immediately hook the audience. While mentioning both Gwen and Theresa being played by Emily as of late, the actress lifted her eyebrows and slyly smirked at the thought of Alex and Gwen being together someday.

When discussing how both characters have been on incredible journeys lately, Alex’s, for example, included losing his glasses “yeah he’s grown so much!”

Alex has gained a new company in Titan, a new father, a cousin,... “It’s been a wild year. And a few ladies in between all that!”

About being excited or grateful for the amount of story he’s able to play currently, Robert Scott Wilson explained his feeling as, “I’m loving this story. I’m loving the ability to play something light… Granted now he’s been going through things that are a little bit heavier… a lot of bit (sic) heavier... His world has been turned upside down, but this is a guy who lived in the light. He had money, he had business sense, he had women. He had all these things, but you don’t really develop and understand somebody all the way until he’s had his ego checked… by finding out that his whole life has been kind of a bit of a lie… It comes as bittersweet and I get to play those layers. They wrote it really well. It’s been so exciting and a breath of fresh air.”

Regarding Gwen’s state of mind when Leo and Dimitri started hooking up, Emily O’Brien said “it’s not a bromance!”

“It was incredibly fun to play,” O’Brien continued, “I just loved the placating. I intentionally wanted to make it so you think ‘oh she knows. She’s not dumb. She hasn’t made it this far in Salem because she’s dumb.’

"I really loved that banter, the three of us together. The way they used to write for the three of us, they left so much room for comedy. Greg, Peter, and I would savor that. We’d go for lunch together and work through these moments to make them as comedic as we could. I do miss that."

Neither Robert nor Emily finds it challenging to work in the same studio with redressed sets representing various locations around the world, Wilson said “It definitely helps to have new sets to help embody something like a new environment. But we can create our own. I think it's our job to make it work no matter what. But having new ambiances and new scenes definitely help, but at the end of the day we’re still at Burbank Studios, we know who we are, we know where we’re going, we know what we’re trying to accomplish, we know our relationship. The environment is only played to a degree.”

Robert Scott Wilson went on to say, “Could use a few less private area scenes. The private scenes in the bushes. They can get pretty tight, but we work with it! It’s our job!”

O’Brien says “Just use your imagination.”

Wilson complimented the history of some of the sets he works on, “There’s an energy and a lot of history.”

When it comes to the Theresa and Alex romance, if there is anything in particular the actors like sinking their teeth into, they both essentially said one another. 

“Any woman doing a scene with Rob is going to have chemistry. He makes it so easy.” 

Robert Scott Wilson stayed humble at the compliment saying “It takes two to tango. You can create chemistry, but the natural stuff is always the best. You can kind of let it develop slowly. I think we have a good amount of that, but she’s also a really good actor. I care about the work that I do, so that all together is the goal.

Everybody is a good actor. Sometimes it just works. Even when you pull them apart, there’s something there which is really good. Everyone has a big job to do [even grips, costumes, set design] and they all do it at the best of their ability.”
